Inaugural Run of RapidX on Delhi-Meerut RRTS
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate RapidX, India’s first rapid rail train, on October 20 in Ghaziabad, with passenger services commencing on October 21. RapidX is a game-changer, and the entire 82.15 km Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor is expected to be fully operational by June 2025. This revolutionary urban transit system promises to significantly reduce travel time between Delhi and Meerut, cutting it to less than an hour.
Route and Key Stations
RapidX will ply on the RRTS corridor connecting Delhi and Meerut, featuring a priority section that includes five crucial stations: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot.
Coach Configuration and Seating
Each RapidX train is composed of six coaches, including a premium coach for an enhanced travel experience. Notably, one coach in every train is reserved exclusively for women. Passengers can expect a well-organized seating arrangement with serially numbered seats. Moreover, dedicated seats are reserved for women, individuals with special needs, and senior citizens. A single train boasts 407 seats arranged in a comfortable 2×2 layout, ensuring a comfortable journey for passengers. In addition, approximately 1,061 passengers can stand within the train, making it an efficient mode of transport.

Passengers aboard RapidX can enjoy various conveniences. The train is equipped with overhead racks, providing ample space for bags, ensuring a hassle-free commute. Moreover, passengers can access free Wi-Fi during their journey, and each seat is equipped with its own charging station, making it easy to stay connected while on the move.
Expansive Corridor Development
The Delhi-Meerut RRTS project encompasses the development of eight corridors, including three under the initial phase: the 82-km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut, the 164-km Delhi-Gurugram-SNB-Alwar, and the 103-km Delhi-Panipat corridors. Future corridors will connect Delhi with Faridabad, Ballabgarh, Palwal, Ghaziabad, Khurja, Bahadurgarh, Rohtak, Hapur, Shahadra, and Baraut.
