Delhi-NCR | February 17, 2025: A 4.0 magnitude earthquake shook Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) early this morning, sending tremors across the city and neighboring areas. The quake, recorded at 5:36 AM, had its epicenter near Dhaula Kuan at a shallow depth of 5 kilometers, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).
The earthquake was felt in New Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad, prompting residents to rush out of their homes. Several people took to social media to report the strong tremors, describing them as one of the most intense in recent months.
“I was woken up by the sudden shaking. It lasted for a few seconds, but it was strong enough to make my furniture rattle,” said Rohit Sharma, a resident of South Delhi.
Authorities have confirmed that there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. However, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority is monitoring the situation closely and has urged people to remain alert for any possible aftershocks.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation, urging citizens to stay calm and follow safety precautions. In a separate incident, an earthquake of magnitude 4.0 was reported in Siwan, Bihar, at 8:02 AM, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS)., with a depth of 10 kilometers. While no major damage was reported, the back-to-back seismic activity has raised concerns among experts about potential tectonic shifts in the region.
