School books and uniforms in Gurgaon
In Gurgaon the school usually hands you a list and the name of a depot, often with a stall on campus in March. Haryana’s rule is clear that you don’t have to buy there.
What the rules say in Gurgaon
Under the Haryana School Education Rules, 2003, Rule 158:
Any shop will do
No school in Haryana can make a child buy books, workbooks, stationery, shoes, socks or uniform only from a shop it recommends.
SourceFive years per uniform
A school can't change its uniform before five academic years have passed.
SourceReal fines
The divisional Fee and Fund Regulatory Committee can fine a school up to ₹30,000, ₹50,000 or ₹1 lakh (primary, middle, senior) for a first breach, double that for a second, and recommend taking away its recognition after a third.

Schools aren't shops
CBSE says affiliated schools must not push parents to buy books, notebooks, uniforms, shoes or bags on campus or from chosen vendors.
SourceBuy genuine NCERT books
Fake NCERT books turn up in NCR every season. In November 2025 CBSE asked schools to tell parents to buy only from NCERT's own outlets, vendors on the NCERT website, or NCERT's Amazon store.
SourceWhere people buy
Sadar Bazar, Old Gurugram
The old city market has a cluster of book depots selling school textbooks. Raids here in 2023 found fake NCERT books, so check the watermark and ask for a bill.
DLF Galleria
Stationery shops on the first floor, good for everyday pens, paper and project bits.
SourceShops we have checked
No shops checked here yet. We list a shop only after visiting it, phoning it or finding it on a school's own vendor list. Run one? Send us your details.
Uniforms
There is no uniform market as such: each school’s uniform is made by one or two tailors or shops, and the school tells you who they are. Ask the school for the exact specification (colour code, fabric, logo). With that, any good tailor can make it, and the rules say the design can’t change for five years.
If the school insists
- Ask the school for the book list and shop list in writing. The rules say it should already be on the school's website. Often that alone settles it.
- Fee and Fund Regulatory Committee of your division. Chaired by the Divisional Commissioner. It has three months to finish its inquiry, and either side can appeal. Source
- For a CBSE school, also the board. CBSE Regional Office, Panchkula (all of Haryana). Addresses
