Where things stand
No 2027–28 notices yet for the CM SHRI test or for other Delhi government school admissions. The CM SHRI portal still shows the 2026 round. Last year applications opened on 27 February and the test for Classes 6 and 9 was on 13 April. Government school admissions for Nursery to Class 1 ran in March, and for Classes 6 to 9 from April.
CM SHRI schools
There are 75 CM SHRI schools in Delhi. 33 of them are named DBRA CM SHRI, and they look to be the former Schools of Specialised Excellence. Entry is by a test in Classes 6, 9 and 11.
- Who can apply: children living in Delhi who passed Class 5, 8 or 10 the year before from a recognised Delhi school.
- Half the seats at least go to children from government, MCD, NDMC, KV, JNV and government-aided schools.
- Class 6 test: 75 questions, 300 marks, 150 minutes, in Hindi and English, with no negative marking. It covers Hindi, English, general knowledge, mental ability and numbers.
- Class 9 test: 100 questions, 400 marks, 150 minutes, in English only, with a quarter mark off for each wrong answer. It covers English, general knowledge, mental ability, science and maths.
- Class 11 test: 100 questions, 400 marks, 3 hours. Paper I is for STEM and Paper II for commerce, humanities and arts.
- School choices: two for Class 6, three for Classes 9 and 11. Seats are given by rank, category, preference and distance. No transfers afterwards.
- Cut-off: 25% gets a child onto the merit list (20% for SC, ST, OBC non-creamy layer and CWSN). In 2026 the marks actually used were 60 for general category in Classes 6 and 9, and 45 (Class 6) or 40 (Class 9) for others.
- No fee was mentioned in the 2026 circulars.
Other government schools, Classes 6 to 9
Children not already in a government school apply online on edudel, in three rounds. The zone gives a seat in a nearby school that has space. A child who gets a seat in one round can’t apply in a later one, and the circular says earlier rounds give a better chance.
| Class | Age on 31 March (2026–27 rule) |
|---|---|
| 6 | 10 to under 12 |
| 7 | 11 to under 13 |
| 8 | 12 to under 14 |
| 9 | 13 to under 15 |
Papers: a photo, last year’s mark sheet, Delhi address proof, and for Classes 6 to 8 a school leaving certificate, birth certificate or a parent’s declaration of birth date. Class 9 needs a countersigned school leaving certificate.
Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalayas stopped taking fresh students in 2021, when they were turned into Schools of Specialised Excellence. There was no separate RPVV or SoSE test for 2026–27. The selective seats now go through the CM SHRI test.
Government schools, Nursery to Class 1
Sarvodaya Vidyalayas with nursery and primary wings run their own entry-class admissions under DoE guidelines. Last year forms ran from 2 to 16 March 2026, with a draw of lots on 20 March where there were more children than seats.
