Where things stand
Gurgaon and Faridabad work differently from Delhi. Haryana sets no common dates for private-school admissions, so each school runs its own, and some have already started for 2027–28. DPS Sushant Lok’s website, for one, shows pre-nursery and nursery admissions for 2027–28 as open. If you have a school in mind, check its website this week rather than waiting for a government notice that won’t come.
The free seats under the Right to Education Act are different. They run on one state schedule, and the 2027–28 schedule isn’t out yet. Last year the first notice came on 6 March and parents applied in April.
Private schools: ages
- Class 1: at least 6 years old, from the 2026–27 session, with the earlier six-month relaxation dropped. This comes from news reports and the state’s RTE age table. We haven’t found the gazette notice, and the rules copy on the state website still says 5.
- Nursery to UKG: the state’s RTE notices use completed 3, 4 and 5 years on 31 March. Schools set their own ages, and they don’t all agree. DPS Sushant Lok lists nursery at 4 years on 31 March 2027, while others say 3. Check each school, and check whether it counts age on 31 March or 1 April.
Private schools: the rules on fees
These come from the Haryana School Education Rules, 2003:
- The registration or prospectus fee is paid once. An admission fee can be charged only on a new admission, or at Class 1, 6, 9 and 11.
- No admission test for Class 1.
- Security money is capped at half the year’s fee and must be refunded within 30 days of the TC.
- Fees are paid monthly, every two months or quarterly. A school can’t insist on six-monthly or yearly payment.
- Every school must file its fees on Form VI by 1 February and put it up. A school that doesn’t file can’t raise fees that year. Ask for the Form VI before you pay anything.
- Rises for children already in the school are capped at the consumer price index rise plus 5%. The fee for new admissions is the school’s own choice.
- No fee rise during the year. No forcing parents to buy books or uniform from one shop. No change of uniform within five years.
- Complaints go to the divisional Fee and Fund Regulatory Committee, chaired by the Divisional Commissioner. It can order refunds and fines.
Unlike Delhi, Haryana has no cap on the registration fee.
Free seats under RTE
A quarter of entry-level seats in private schools are free for children from weaker sections and disadvantaged groups, and for children with disabilities. The state pays the school. Haryana’s old Rule 134A quota was scrapped in 2022, and these RTE seats are now the only route.
- Ages: completed 3, 4, 5 and 6 years on 31 March for Nursery, LKG, UKG and Class 1.
- Income: the official 2026–27 notices say an application can be rejected if family income is above Rs 1.8 lakh a year. Some news sites say Rs 1 lakh. Go by the notice.
- Distance: schools within 0 to 1 km and 1 to 3 km of home. The second round in 2026 allowed 0 to 1 km only.
- Applying: online on the Ujjwal portal. You upload the Parivar Pehchan Patra (family ID) and the child’s Aadhaar, choose schools, and press Final Submit. On the last day in 2026, 14,771 forms were still not final-submitted, and they don’t count.
- Checks: you then go in person to the block-level committee with originals: proof of residence, proof of age, and EWS, DG or disability proof.
- Draw: a computerised lottery. The result is posted on harprathmik.gov.in. You report to the allotted school within 10 days or the seat goes.
- Complaints: to the block committee first, then the district appeal committee, then the Joint Director.
In March 2026 Gurugram had 4,828 RTE seats in 583 schools and Faridabad 8,515 in 1,372. 34 Gurugram schools and 90 Faridabad schools hadn’t finished declaring seats by the deadline. In April parents in Gurugram reported the form showing no schools within 1 to 3 km. Keep screenshots of what the form shows you.

We found no official admission schedule for Haryana government schools, including Model Sanskriti and PM SHRI schools, for this year or last. Ask the school directly.
