Moving here, Greater Noida
Moving to Greater Noida
What to sort in your first month in Greater Noida or Greater Noida West, from the power company and police verification to the metro and your children's school.
The first week
Go to your society office before the truck arrives. In most of Greater Noida West, and in a lot of towers in Greater Noida, the maintenance agency controls the electricity meter, the water and the move-in rules. Ask what papers they want and which days they allow shifting.
Get the rent agreement signed and the police verification started in the first few days. The agreement doubles as your proof of address for the Aadhaar update, so the rest of the paperwork waits on it.
Electricity, water and gas
Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL) supplies electricity in Greater Noida, and that includes Greater Noida West. It has customer offices at Knowledge Park I and Techzone IV, and you can apply for a new connection or a name change on its website or app. NPCL says a name change takes effect from the next billing cycle, so expect one more bill in the old name.
Many high-rise societies still take power at a single point. The developer or maintenance agency buys it in bulk from NPCL and bills each flat itself, often through a prepaid meter. If your society works this way, your account is with them and not with NPCL. NPCL also gives individual connections in high-rises under a multipoint scheme, so ask the office which one your tower uses.
Water is supplied by the Greater Noida Authority. Bills for houses and plots can be paid on the Authority's Mitra app. In a society flat, ask the maintenance office how water is charged. Ganga water started reaching parts of central Greater Noida in 2022, but as of September 2025 it had not reached Greater Noida West, where societies were relying on borewells and tankers. Ask the neighbours about water quality.
Piped gas comes from Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL). Not every building is connected, so check the charged area status on the IGL website before you apply online. If your tower is not on it, you will need an LPG connection from a gas agency.
Paperwork
Rent agreements are stamped and registered through the Uttar Pradesh Stamp and Registration Department. The state cut stamp duty and registration fees on rent agreements sharply, first through a notification in November 2025 and then by a Cabinet decision in January 2026. Brokers sometimes quote the old figures, so check the current charge on the IGRS Uttar Pradesh portal.
Police tenant verification is done through UPCOP, the UP Police app, which lists tenant verification among its services. Agree with your landlord who will file it, and keep the reference number.
For Aadhaar, UIDAI accepts a valid rent, lease or leave and licence agreement as proof of address, and the update can be done online on myAadhaar.
Getting around
The Aqua Line, run by Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC), is the only metro here. In Greater Noida its stations run from Knowledge Park II and Pari Chowk down to Depot, and at the Noida end it meets the Delhi Metro Blue Line between Sector 51 and Sector 52. A single QR ticket for trips across both networks was soft-launched in September 2025. Ask at the counter whether it covers your route, and ask about the NMRC smart card if you will travel daily.
Greater Noida West has no metro. Most people take a cab or an auto to Sector 51 or 52. A short line from Noida Sector 61 to Greater Noida West Sector 4 at Gaur Chowk cleared the Public Investment Board in July 2026 and was still waiting for Union Cabinet approval in September. Don't choose a flat because of it.
New electric buses started running in the Noida region in June 2026, timed with Noida International Airport at Jewar, which began commercial flights on 22 June. Check the routes near you before you count on them. Otherwise it is app cabs, autos and e-rickshaws.
Schools
Ask the current school for a transfer certificate as soon as you know your dates. Most schools want it, with the last report card, before they confirm a seat.
Moving mid-year is simpler in the junior classes. For Classes 9 to 12, talk to both schools about board registration before you commit to a date.
Seats under the Right to Education quota in private schools are allotted by lottery through the RTE Uttar Pradesh portal, in phases early in the year. Our admissions page has the general calendar for private school admissions.
Your car or bike
You can keep driving your out-of-state vehicle while you settle in. Section 47 of the Motor Vehicles Act says that once a vehicle registered in another state has been kept here for more than twelve months, you have to apply for a new registration mark in Uttar Pradesh.
That application normally goes with a no objection certificate from the transport office where the vehicle is registered now. Both can be started through the Vahan services on the Parivahan website. Ask the transport office what Uttar Pradesh road tax applies to your vehicle before you budget for the move.
Small things locals know
Couriers and delivery apps still use Noida Extension for Greater Noida West. Put both names in your saved addresses.
Try the school run and the office commute at peak hour before you sign the lease. The roundabouts around Gaur Chowk back up badly in the morning.
If your flat is on a prepaid meter, set a low-balance alert. When the balance runs out, the power goes off.
