Park, Ghaziabad
Swarna Jayanti Park
Indirapuram's big public park. Walkers take the track at dawn, and by evening the play area belongs to the children.
What it is
This is the main green space for a part of town that is mostly towers. A walking track runs around the inside of the park under tall trees, and there is a children's play area with swings and rides. Statues of freedom fighters, among them Rani Lakshmi Bai and Sarojini Naidu, stand along the paths, and the lawns have fountains.
Some visitors mention a Japanese garden and boating. Ask at the gate whether the boats are running before you promise the children.
Getting there
The park is inside Indirapuram, so for most residents it is a short walk or auto ride. There is no metro close by. Vaishali on the Blue Line is the nearest station, and an auto or cab from there is the easy option. Roadside parking outside fills up on weekend evenings.
When to go
Early morning is best for a walk, when it is cooler and the track belongs to the regulars. Winter afternoons are good for sitting on the lawns. In summer, skip the afternoon and come after sunset instead. Weekend evenings are the busiest time of the week.
Good to know
Bring your own badminton racket or cricket bat if you want to play, as there is nothing to borrow. Small stalls near the gates sell snacks and juice. Air in this part of Ghaziabad is poor in November and December, and a morning walk can feel heavy on bad days, so check the AQI first.
