Park, Ghaziabad
City Forest
About 175 acres of planted woodland on the bank of the Hindon, next to Raj Nagar Extension. Trails, cycling, boating and room for a long Sunday picnic.
What it is
The district administration describes City Forest as about 175 acres, split into nine blocks from A to I. Neem, bamboo, amla, jamun and arjun trees line the paths, and lakhs of saplings have gone in recently, so some blocks still look young.
You can walk, cycle or take a horse ride, and there are guided jeep rides through the blocks. Boating runs on a 5-acre lake and on a 3-acre natural wetland that draws migratory birds in winter. There is also a children's park with sitting areas, and a deer park and a bamboo park are planned.
Getting there
It sits on the Hindon right beside Raj Nagar Extension. By car, the Hindon elevated road brings you here from UP Gate and Indirapuram. There is no metro nearby. From the old city, the new bus stand is about 8 km away by road, so a cab or auto is the practical choice.
When to go
Gates open at 5 am and close at 7:30 pm every day. Sunday mornings are the family slot and it fills up. Winter is the best season, for the weather and the birds on the wetland. In summer, arrive at opening time and leave before the heat builds.
Good to know
Wear proper shoes, as the hiking paths are narrow and some trails get muddy after monsoon rain. Ask at the counter about charges for rides and boating before you queue.
