School books and uniforms in Greater Noida

Greater Noida schools often run book stalls on campus, and parents in Greater Noida West have protested being pushed to buy there. UP law says you can buy anywhere.

What the rules say in Greater Noida

Under the UP Self-Financed Independent Schools (Fee Regulation) Act, 2018:

Any shop will do

A private school in Noida, Greater Noida or Ghaziabad can't make a student buy books, shoes, socks or uniform from a particular shop.

Five years per uniform

The uniform can't change within five academic years unless the district fee committee approves it first.

Fines

The District Fee Regulatory Committee can fine a school up to ₹1 lakh for a first breach and ₹5 lakh for a second.

And for CBSE schools anywhere:

Schools aren't shops

CBSE says affiliated schools must not push parents to buy books, notebooks, uniforms, shoes or bags on campus or from chosen vendors.

The book list is public

Every CBSE school has to post its prescribed book list on its website.

Buy genuine NCERT books

Fake NCERT books turn up in NCR every season. In November 2025 CBSE asked schools to tell parents to buy only from NCERT's own outlets, vendors on the NCERT website, or NCERT's Amazon store.

Where people buy

We haven't found a market here we can vouch for yet. Most families buy through the school's tie-up shop or a book depot nearby. If you know a good one, tell us.

Shops we have checked

No shops checked here yet. We list a shop only after visiting it, phoning it or finding it on a school's own vendor list. Run one? Send us your details.

Uniforms

There is no uniform market as such: each school’s uniform is made by one or two tailors or shops, and the school tells you who they are. Ask the school for the exact specification (colour code, fabric, logo). With that, any good tailor can make it, and the rules say the design can’t change for five years.

If the school insists

  1. Ask the school for the book list and shop list in writing. The rules say it should already be on the school's website. Often that alone settles it.
  2. Write to the principal first. Put it in writing. If nothing happens in 15 working days, go to the next step. Source
  3. District Fee Regulatory Committee. Chaired by the District Magistrate, with the District Inspector of Schools as member secretary. In April 2026 the Gautam Buddh Nagar committee repeated the shop and uniform rules for Noida and Greater Noida schools. Source
  4. For a CBSE school, also the board. CBSE Regional Office, Noida (Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad). Addresses

Keep copies of the circular, the receipt and any message from the school. Complaints with dates and papers move faster.
