Lake, Gurugram
Damdama Lake
A lake in the Aravalli foothills on the way to Sohna. It has shrunk a lot over the years, so how much water you find depends on the last monsoon.
What it is
Damdama Lake lies at the foot of the Aravallis near Damdama and Abheypur villages, in the Sohna block of Gurugram district. It was built in 1947 to hold rainwater. After the 2011 monsoon it covered about 108 acres. By June 2019 it was down to under two acres, and by December 2023 it had come back to about 46 acres.
Haryana Tourism runs a guesthouse overlooking the water, with gardens and a terrace.
Getting there
Drive south on Sohna Road or the Sohna elevated road and turn off towards Damdama village. There is no metro or reliable bus, so you need a car or a cab booked for the return trip. The last stretch is a village road and slower than the highway.
When to go
After the monsoon, through the winter, is when there is most water and the weather is kind. In summer the lake can be very low and the surroundings hot and dusty.
Good to know
Boating has run here in the past, but check before you go rather than planning a day around it. A lake restoration and a biodiversity park around it have been proposed. As of January 2026, work on the ground had not started. Carry food and water, and take your rubbish home.
